Geocache Description:

This part of Benoni is known as airfield because during World War II, the South African Airforce trained the war pilots in Benoni. In honour of this, all the street names in this area were named aeronautically. This geocache series gives a brief explanation of the various planes and places in flying after which these roads were named as well as a photo of the plane focussed on. BYOP for all caches, beware of muggles and please replace with care. Happy hunting!!

The Handley Page Halifax was one of the four-engined heavy bombers of the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. A contemporary of the famous Avro Lancaster, the Halifax remained in service until the end of the war, performing a variety of duties in addition to bombing. 6,176 were built during 13 November 1940-1961.
