Geocache Description:

The cache is a small plastic box (opens with some effort...) with a magnet attached on a metalic surface. It is placed at the area of the Hellenic Maritime Museum. The museum is situated at Piraeus-Freatyda and it was founded in 1949. At its ten big rooms it is presented to the visitor the Hellenic naval history through the centuries in a vivid way with maps, paintings, scale ships and volumes of books at the library.

 

The cache initially contains a tiny logbook, a pen and a keychain tool to check tires, as a gift for the first to find. It is placed at the yard of the museum where the upper tower of submarine Papanikolis is placed also. Among this there are some other artillery equipments.
The Y2-Papanikolis, ordered after the First World War. She was built at the Chantiers de la Loire shipyards between 1925-27, and is commissioned into the Hellenic Navy on 21 December 1927. Its first captain was Cdr P. Vandoros.
