Geocache Description:

a letterbox located where Old South meets New...

This is a letterbox, so you don't need your GPSr, though it helps to have one to make sure you've reached the waypoints provided on this page. The given coordinates indicate the closest sidestreet for parking. To find the cache, follow these directions:

From the parking, walk to the west down High House Rd. until you reach the land of the Roadside Prophet (you'll know when you're there (waypoint "CRAZY"). Beware disturbing the prophet, but behold his works and add up the following figures:

  • The number of Spanish angels
  • The first two digits of the year in the nuclear winter tableau, as a two-digit number
  • And the following for the dates on the stone battle altar, below the cross: the start and end months, as numbers; the starting and ending days of the months; and the last two digits of the year

From the western edge of the prophet’s land (around the telephone pole), proceed that many steps* west down the sidewalk. You should be able to see the Archangel Michael (pictured on the cache-page background) waving at you from across the street. Here, step into the woods. At the bottom of the slope where the ground drops from the sidewalk, head 20 steps south to the dancing trees sharing a cup. Inside their cup, you'll find the letterbox.

If you're using a GPS, you can verify the point where you leave the sidewalk as follows:

Take the given latitude for this geocache, in degrees-minutes-decimal format, but replace the digits after the decimal point with X, where X= the number you got above, plus 20.

Take the given longitude for this geocache (again in degrees-minutes-decimal), but replace the digits after the decimal point with Y, where Y=the number you got above, plus 150.

The cache is a small lock-n-lock, so there's a bit of room for trades, but all that's in there to start with is the logbook, inkpad, stamp, and pen, all of which should stay with the cache. If you're a letterboxer, be sure to bring your own stamp and book. Otherwise, you can just sign the log.

Happy hunting!
