Цей монумент безперечно є найбільш привабливою пам'яткою Києва радянських часів і тому він є одним з найбільш улюблених символів нашого міста. Мова йде про монумент, який має офіційну назву "Либідь, що парить", але в народі цей монумент частіше називають "Пам'ятник засновникам Києва" або просто "Ладья". Монумент був відкритий 22 травня 1982 року в Наводницькому парку, що біля мосту Патона, до дня свята 1500 річчя міста Києва. Автори монументу - скульптори В.З. Бородай та М.М. Ферещенко. Скульптурна композиція виконана у формі човна (ладьї), на якому встановлено фігури братів Кия, Щека і Хорива та їх сестри Либідь - легендарних засновників міста.
Історична інформація про Кия, Щека, Хорива та Либіді згадується Нестором Літописцем в "Повісті временних літ" (11-12 сторіччя нашої ери). Згідно автору, брати були вражені красою Дніпровських пагорбів і вирішили оселитися тут. "Кий сидів на Боричевій горі, Щек на горі Щекавиця, а Хорив на третій горі, яка надалі стала називатися Хоривицею". Місто було названо Київ на честь старшого з братів.

This monument is undoubtedly the most attractive monument of Kyiv of the Soviet era and therefore it is one of the most beloved symbols of our city. It is a monument which has the official name "Soaring Lybid", but in the people this monument is more often called "Monument to the founders of Kyiv" or simply "Lad'ya". The monument was opened on May 22, 1982 in Navodnitsky Park, near the Paton Bridge, on the day of the 1500 anniversary of Kyiv. The authors of the monument are sculptors V.Z. Boroday and M.M. Fereschenko.
The sculptural composition is made in the form of a boat (Lad'ya), on which the figures of brothers Kyi, Shchek and Horiv and their sister Lybid - the legendary founders of the city. Historical information about Kyi, Shchek, Horiv, and Lybid is mentioned by Nestor Chronicler in "The Story of the Temporary Years" (11-12th Century AD). According to the author, the brothers were amazed by the beauty of the Dnieper hills and decided to stay here. "Kiy was sitting on Boricheva hill, Shchek on Shchekavitsa hill, and Choriv was on the third hill, which later became known as Choryvitsa." The city was named Kyiv in honor of the elder brother.
