Traditionally, in the countryside, summer cottages and private homes, sauna buildings have been built separately from other courtyards and where possible by the water.

Has anyone counted the lakeside sauna's at Lappajärvi? There are over 2000 summer cottages on the shores of Lake Lappajärvi.

Building a sauna on the beach has certainly had a practical explanation. Carrying the wash water was easier and saved time and effort.

It is common to go to the lake to cool off in the sauna, or hole in the ice during winter, or like some of the more daring, roll on snow.

 Saunan rakentamisella rantaan on varmasti ollut käytännöllinen selitys. Pesuveden kantaminen oli helpompaa ja säästi aikaa ja voimia.

 Saunomisen välillä on tavallista käydä vilvoittelemassa järvessä, tai talvella avannossa tai kuten jotkut rohkeammat, lumihangessa piehtaroimassa.
