Geocache Description:

On December 19, 1944, General Patton turned his 3rd Army 90° and launched it north. A week later, on December 26, the first tank commanded by Lieutenant Charles Boggess reached the defensive perimeter of the 101st Airborne, route d'Assenois, at 4.45 pm.

On a memorial plaque we can read: "Here, on the evening of 26.12.1944, the 4th Armored Division joined the 101st Airborne, breaking the encirclement of Bastogne." And on a second plaque: “Homage to Lt Charles Boggess (1911-1985) whose tank was the first to break through the encirclement of Bastogne”.

During the evening, the 4th Armored Division (3rd US Army Patton) joined McAuliffe's 101st Airborne, surrounded for several days by the German troops of General von Lüttwitz.
