You
are invited to join a celebratory event cache to mark the 10 year
anniversary of Geocaching in South Africa.

Come
and join in a historic event in the Silvermine Nature reserve on
Saturday 8 of January 2011 at 10am. We Meet at the picnic spots on
the North Bank of the Reservoir. Please read my logs for more
detail.
Many of the placers of the oldest caches on the Peninsula have been
invited and hopefully will attend. It will be your opportunity to
meet some of those that started geocaching off in South Africa.
The event will start with a walk up to "Sentinel View", the
oldest active cache in the country. We hope to be joined by
Professor Merry, the cache owner, who placed the cache on
18/01/2001. Bring along a bottle of bubbly or other suitable liquid
refreshment as we toast 10 years of Geocaching in South Africa. It
is a fantastic venue with spectacular views over Chapman's Peak
drive and Hout Bay. The walk is not too strenuous and will probably
take about half an hour. If you are unfit, you may want to set off
a little earlier. Walking shoes are recommended,

After visiting the cache we will make our way back to the reservoir
for a picnic lunch and a fun social event. No braaing or gas fires
are allowed in Silvermine at this time of year. Swimming is allowed
in the reservoir and dogs are allowed above the wall.

The Silvermine Reservoir
It should be a fun event for the whole family. Please park at
S
34° 04.510 E 018° 24.061. It can be hot so I would suggest
you bring: a picnic blanket, umbrella (we probably will sit in the
shade of trees), plenty to drink, picnic food, hats, a swimming
costume and sunscreen.
Please watch the listing to stay abreast of any changes.
There is an entrance fee to the
Silvermine Reserve. Adults R20, scholars R10. If you have a Wild
Card entrance is free.
Looking forward to
seeing you!
