This cache consists of a small blue circular container with a geocaching declaration in both english and greek, and a small log book. Please bring your own pen or pencil. The cache is hidden by the Catholic Church of Agioi Anargyroi (Saints Kosmas and Damianos) outside the village of Ligero (Λυγερό) in Ano Meria, about 4km north of Ermoupoli.
According to tradition, Kosmas and Damianos were twin brothers from Arabia who practiced as physicians in Aegeae, a coastal city in Syria, during the 4th century. As they accepted no payment for their services, they were known as Anargyroi, meaning "without silver". During the persecution of Christians under the Roman Emperor Diocletian, the brothers were arrested, tortured, and ordered to recant their faith, which they refused to do. After they were crucified, stoned, and shot with arrows, they were finally beheaded. In the Catholic tradition, their feast day is on Septemebr 26th with special services held around this date.
