At N 47° 47.989', E 18° 44.141' a few stairs can be used to reach the wall. We recommend walking around from the right. There's a wall-combination at the edge of the high ground. The cache is in the outer wall section, around 5 feet above ground behind a light grey stone. IMPORTANT! When hiding the box back, please take extra care to hide the cache fully away from uninitiated eyes. Place the stone back so it fits and holds tightly. Thanks!
Warning! Some culturally-challenged people have lately been using the surroundings of the cache as a toilet :( Take extra care when visiting the cache. Please refer to the description. Pictures will be updated shortly. Thanks. Arriving to Esztergom it's easy to find the Basilica and the Fortress-hill (Várhegy). Parking is easy right next to the Basilica. From there, both the Basilica itself and the Fortress are worth a walk. Our suggestion is to start at N 47° 48.0178' E 18° 44.1317', where there's a path going to the bottom north tower, close to Melocco's St. Stephen statue. Arriving to Esztergom, the Basilica - the symbol of the city - appears from far distance. Firstly Lord Geza choosed Esztergom to be his base to rule the country, since 960 AD. His son, Stephan (original name: Vajk) born there around 969-975, who's celebrated nowadays as the founder of Hungary. Later Stephan built a new palace onto the south rock of the hill, and a great Basilica to the middle rock of of the hill in remembrance of St. Adalbert, who was the Hungarian bishop before this time. Then, during the Turkish rule, everything was destroyed, the fortress and the Basilica too. Reputedly, some ruins, rocks could be found on the Danube side of the hill. The primateship got back the fortress in 1761, and after 2 years they started to build a new basilica building, a new religious center. The new Basilica was built from 1822 to 1869. It has a 339 feet high, 393 feet length, 164 feet wide. It's columns are 75 feet high, the dome's altitude is 240 feet and the diameter is 114 feet. Entering at the south gate you see the world's greatest altar-piece, 44x24 feet picturing Grigoletti: Assumption. The Treasury, and the vault under the casilica worth a visit, you can find prelates graves from the Middle Age, and bishops. The view from the dome is very nice to the Borzsony-mountains, Visegrad-mountains, Pilis-mountains, etc. Since August 15th 2001., a new monument can be found at the north tower, “St. Stephan’s enthronement” made bye Mikos Melocco. There’s a good view on the Garam river’s mouth, and the mountains on the Danube riverside.
