Geocache Description:

Nice walk on paved trail. Less than 50 feet of bushwaking. Park closes at 10:30 p.m.Bring your own pencil.

Six acres of land were donated by E.S. Ellsworth in the late 1800s as a Baptist assembly grounds. At one time a huge pavilion and dining hall hosted thousands of visitors. At one time in the summer of 1902, over 200 tents were set up in the park. The Red Path-Vawter circuit if the Chautauquas were held here until around 1918. The first swinging foot bridge was built in 1897 to provide easy access to the Baptist Church back on the town square. The present Swinging Foot Bridge was built in 1909 and rebuilt in 1925, with some refurbishing in 1956.
