Another year has gone by, and another getaway on Rock Island.
We've had a lot of fun over the last three years, and have created
many fond memories and friendships. Whether you are an old friend
or new acquaintenance, all are welcome to attend.
Because people like the format that has evolved over the last
three years, there won't be any major changes for 2008. Except one.
I will be taking a small party to the island a week or two ahead of
time (Sometime after the May WGA campout) to plant temps. Lots of
them. But, as always, your time is your own, so feel free to do as
many or as few caches as you wish. It's up to you.
I won't give the long description of the event again, I suggest
you merely revisit the descriptions and log entries from the
previous years. Click on the link below to open in a new

Rock Island Getaway
Rock Island Getaway II
Rock Island Getaway III
Scheduled events are few. Friday night is the distribution of
the cache list, unless I manage to deliver it via email before the
event. Saturday night is the beloved beer-sausage-cheese tasting
event. Sunday morning is the group photo. There are always other
events happening on the island.
Getting to the island can cost a few bucks in ferry fees. I
encourage ride sharing. One of the two group sites on the island is
reserved for us; However, you can also reserve your own site, if
you so desire. The group sites are beautifully wooded and secluded,
not an open field like at some of the other state parks. This year,
we are back at Group Site II.
The event is FREE, but those parties staying at the group site
will be asked to contribute to cover the costs of the reservation.
Voluntary contributions are welcome and encouraged to defray my
expenses, especially the cost of visiting the island ahead of time
to plant caches. I'll pass the hat Saturday night, but there won't
be a hard sell.
Any questions, ask away!
