The cache is on Mt Lowe. The trail starts at Eaton Saddle, Mount
Wilson Road and one of the most spectacular spots in that area.
There are sheer cliffs that seem straight up on one side of the
road and straight down on the other. Also there are breathtaking
views of the valley below. You can park at 34 Deg. 14.359 N, 118.
Deg. 05.617 W. National Forest adventures pass is required and can
be obtained in sporting goods stores.
The cache is about 3-mi. walk round trip and 500’ elevation gain
from where you park. When you reach Markham Saddle (N 34° 14.345 W
118° 05.948) you will see a large concrete water tank. From here,
trails fork off to Mount Disappointment and Mount Lowe. Take the
trail to Mt. Lowe. The walk is easy but I listed it 'Terrain: three
stars' because of the distance. We recommend that pets and small
children should be tethered to adults, as there is no guardrail on
the Mt. Lowe Fire Road to protect them from the sheer drop off.
At one point you’ll go through Mueller Tunnel. Look for what’s
left of (what I think is) the old mule trail on the outside of the
hill that the tunnel goes through.
