„Wer hätte gedacht, dass von den über 1.000 zivilen Luftschutzbauten aus dem Zweiten Weltkrieg heute noch schätzungsweise 700 im Stadtgebiet zu finden sind?„
Im Zweiten Weltkrieg war Hamburg als zweitgrößte Stadt des Deutschen Reiches und Standort von U-Boot- und Ölindustrie ein bevorzugtes Ziel für Luftangriffe. Da die Stadt als "Luftschutzort 1. Ordnung" galt, lief seit 1939 bis zu den verheerenden Bombenangriffen im Sommer 1943 ein großes Bunkerbauprogramm, das Hunderte von Luftschutzbauten besonders für die Zivilbevölkerung, aber auch für die Industrie, für die Reichsbahn, für Krankenhäuser und für die Wehrmacht entstehen ließ.
Die genaue Anzahl der für die Deutsche Reichsbahn errichteten Bunker konnte von uns leider nicht ermittelt werden.
Es gibt sie aber, außer in Hamburg, auch in vielen anderen Städten, oft direkt an Bahnhöfen gelegen. Sie dienten dem Schutz der Reichsbahnbediensteten und auch den Zugreisenden vor Luftangriffen. Die Verblendung besteht aus normalen Backsteinen und diente der Tarnung. Darunter befindet sich bombensicherer Stahlbeton.
Zum Cache:
Dieser Cache führt Euch direkt zum Reichsbahnbunker "Alte Wöhr". Der Bunker scheint von außen noch gut erhalten und wird unseres Wissens nach als Übungsraum für Musiker genutzt. Vor dem Bunker stehend orientiert Euch in Richtung des alten Fahrradunterstandes direkt neben dem Kiosk. Weitere Hilfe gibt es im Spoiler-Foto.
In der Nähe befindet sich ein kleiner Kiosk mit Getränkeausschank. Öffnungszeiten: 7.30 - 12.00 Uhr und 16.00 - 22.30 Uhr. Dort verweilen oft Kunden-Muggels, aber einige Stammkunden wissen über den Cache bescheid. Da die Eigentümer und Angestellten des Kiosks schon öfter gewechselt haben, ist nicht ganz klar, ob die aktuelle Belegschaft stets über den Cache im Bilde ist. Also schaltet bitte den "Stealth-Mode"an.
Im Cache befinden sich Logstreifen, aber kein Stift!
Aufgrund der Örtlichkeit nahe der S-Bahn sind die Koordinaten bewußt nicht punktgenau. Viel Spass bei der Suche!
(Juni 2009) Wichtige Ergänzung für die Suche im Sommerhalbjahr: Während des Sommerhalbjahres finden im nahegelegenen Stadtpark Open-Air-Konzerte statt. Da die meisten Besucher mit der S-Bahn zu den Events anreisen, ist es an Konzerttagen am Bahnhof sehr, sehr muggelig. Also kommt im Sommer besser am späten Abend bzw. in der Nacht. Wir haben den Cache deshalb jetzt mit dem Attribut "recommended at night" versehen".

"In the city of Hamburg, there are still 700 out of more than 1.000 civil used air-raid shelters (called bunkers) remaining of the times of World War II."
During the second world war the city of Hamburg, as the second largest city of the German Reich and a significant location for submarine- and oil-industry, was a privileged goal for the allied airforce attacks. From the view of the political leaders the city of Hamburg was chosen as an "especially endangered city", so hundreds of bunkers especially for civilians, but also for the industry, the German railways, hospitals and the army were built since 1939 until the devastating air-raids of the summer of 1943.
Unfortunately we don't know exactly how many bunkers were built for the German railways ("Deutsche Reichsbahn").
But these bunkers were also built in many other German cities. They are often located near train stations to give shelter for train workers and travellers during air-raids. The facing of the bunker was made of normal bricks, but underneath the bricks there is bombproof concrete steel.
The Cache:
This cache leads you directly to the air raid shelter (bunker) at the city-train-station "Alte Wöhr". The bunker still seems to be in good condition. Nowadays it is used as an exercising-studio for musicians. When you stand in front of the bunker, just go to the old bicycle racks / bicycle-shelter directly beside the kiosk. More help you'll get from the spoiler-pic.
At close range of the cache there is a kiosk selling drinks and coffee. Opening hours: 7.30 a.m. - 12.00 p.m and 4.00 p.m. - 10.30 p.m. Many muggler-customers stay there for having a drink or a cup of coffee, but some frequent customers seem to know about the cache. Because the ownership of the kiosk and also its employees have changed for several times, it is not quite clear, if all of the current staff of the kiosk are aware of the cache. So, you better have to act in "Stealth-Mode" while searching.
The Micro contains logstripes, but no pen!
Because of the location near the train-station the coordinates are not exactly chosen. Happy hunting.
(June 2009) Important appendix for searching the cache during summer half-year: During summertime, there are open-air-events in the nearby municipal park. Most of the attendents come by train, so it will be very crowdy around the cache-location on event-days. So during summertime you better approach in the late evening or at night. Therefore and from now on we gave the cache the attribute "recommended at night"
