The Nagy-Mezohavas 1777m (Saca Mare) peak is the highest peak of Görgényi-havasok (Gurghiului Mountains). It stands on the flange of one of the most scenic vulcano crater in Transilvania. There are four other peak under 1600m: Tatárka 1689m, Gajnásza 1600m, Ferenci láza 1640m and Kis Mezohavas 1733m. The peak is a huge meadow, covered by juniper and bilbery, smooth rounded, and in dehumilider weather you can see the scalloped saddels of Eastern and the Southern Carpatians.
Approach: You have two way to go there:
From the Bucin peak you should follow the
line.
From Vármezo (Campu Cetatii) you should start the
line and follow the road. At the first cross section turn left, and follow the road up to a barrier. You can park here and go up to the peak.
From both side you’ll have approx. 3 hours to the peak. You need to take some water and currant with you. Do not go there alone!
Take care, until octobre to may there are more than 1m snow on the peak!
Have a nice trip and a beautifull waether. I wish you the best.
