GEOCAC is the official agency code for Geocachers who report their
benchmark recoveries to the National Geodetic Survey.
GEO*Trailblazer 1 has created a project to have a commemorative
mark like this one set in each state of the union, and to get them
included into the NGS database. This past summer, AstroD-Team
volunteered to coordinate and make this project a reality for the
state of Wisconsin. Unfortunately, the Geocaching.com database is
static, and (so it seems) no new marks will be added, therefore a
geocache is needed to show everyone the location of the mark.
The Wisconsin GEOCAC mark is the third in the nation to be set
(26 November 2008), and will not be officially surveyed until April
2009.
A big thank you goes out to:
Mr. John Ellingson - Wisconsin State Surveyor, National Geodectic
Agency/NOAA
Mr. Pat Ford - Brown County Survey Coordinator
Mr. Rick VanGoethem, RLS - Northeast Wisconsin Technical
College
NWTC's gas and electric students, concrete making students, and the
surveying class for providing the labor, materials and skills to
make this possible!
Geocaching.com for the use of the logo on the station.
GEO*Trailblazer 1 for spearheading this project and helping us
along!
AZCachemeister for part of the cache page format.
This is a two part multi. The coordinates will bring you to the
WI GEOCAC benchmark, where you will find coordinates to the final.
At the final, you will find conditions we deal with in our
benchmark searches. Please note, the benchmark will not be
winter friendly if there is a lot of snow. WP1 is winter friendly.
WP2 MAY BE winter friendly depending on snow fall and if you use
the hint. Good luck!
