Geocache Description:

Come meet at the Hartman Lake enclosed shelter at 5:00 PM. Socialize by the fire, then get your handouts and hit the trails. Geocaches will be accessible by cross-country skis, snowshoes, or by hiking.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: The park manager has changed the date to 1/31/09, due to extremely cold windchill forecast.
Date: January 31st, 2009 Time: 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM Location: Hartman Lake enclosed shelter.
The Friends of Hartman Creek State Park will be hosting a special candlelight skiing and Geocaching event. Enjoy an evening hike, snowshoe, or ski along a trail lit by the flickering flames of candles or tiki torches.
A 1.3-mile cross-country ski trail will be lighted by candles, along with another 1 mile of lighted hiking trail. Roughly a dozen temporary Geocaches will be placed, with half accessible by cross-country ski, and the other half accessible by hiking or snowshoes. How are you going to tromp through the woods to find a cache with ski's on? Don't worry, Geocaches will be placed with that in mind.
Learn some of the history of the park as you Geocache. The Geocache locations and handouts will help you learn interesting facts about the park. If you get cold, head on back to the shelter to warm up by the fire.
This Geocaching event will coincide with the yearly candlelight ski/hike which is held in many State Parks. This will be a great opportunity to introduce the sport to people who are new to Geocaching.
What should you bring along? - Skis - Snowshoes - Warm boots - Warm clothing - GPS - Pencil (pens don't work too good in the cold) - Flashlight or headlight - Handwarmers ?
Special note: The groomed ski trails can be quickly damaged by people hiking on them. Please do not walk on any of the ski trails.
As an added bonus, there are about 5 permanent geocaches in the park. Perhaps you want to come early, or stay late, to attempt some of these other caches. It might be a real challenge to find them in the winter!
We hope you are able to join us for this unique event!
Please post a note if you plan to attend, so we can have enough materials available. See you soon.
