Geocache Description:

Welcome to the 2009 MnGCA Spring Event - Safari Send-Off!

We're putting together a Spring event in conjunction with the Minnesota State Park's "Geocaching Wildlife Safari". Join us for some caching, visiting and fun!

Who: You and fifty or more of your closest friends.
What: The 2009 MnGCA Spring Event
When: Saturday, 5/2/09 from 9:30 am until 7:00 pm
Where: Mille Lacs Kathio State Park, 15066 Kathio State Park Road, Onamia, MN
How Much: Please remember to stop by the office on your way into the park to purchase a group daily permit for $3.00. Be SURE to tell them you're here for the geocaching event for the discount. Don't let cost prevent you from coming; if you need a "scholarship", just tell the desk. Quanities are limited, however. Annual permits cost $25 and can be used toward the Safari Hunt in any of the Minnesota State Parks.
Why: Because everyone loves a geocaching event!
How: Dress like a Safari hunter to celebrate the theme!! We've heard that the media is interested in our event (which includes the Minnesota State Park History Challenge Reunion) and may take pictures!! Be creative -- Wear your pith helmet, binoculars, camo shirt, khaki shorts and long, white socks.

New this year:
An MnGCA T-shirt!! See below for a picture of the logo. Sizes are adult small, Medium, Large, XL,XXL and XXXL.

The deadline for placing orders is April 15th, 2009. All orders will be emailed to firstbass via treasurer@mngca.org (We hope to upload an order form shortly.) You will be able to pay by PayPal, check or cash.

The cost is:
$12.00 for T-shirts (add $1.00 for XXL or XXXL) and $21.00 for sweatshirts (add $2.00 for XXL or XXXL). The shirts and sweatshirts will be delivered at the event.

History Challenge Reunion

For those of you who completed the first State Park Challenge, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources would like thank you personally. A short gathering is planned for 9:30am at the Trail Center. We look forward to getting this group of adventurers together and hear their tails from the trail.

Here are the activities we're planning for the day:

“How Far Can You Go” – a Multi-Cache Adventure

We will be deploying a multi-cache adventure with increasing difficulty and terrain ratings, and of course an increasing fun and challenge rating! We will start the first stage at 1/1 (D/T) and hope to end it with a 5/5 (D/T). Go as far through the multi as you like. Each stage will have a code on the log book and the coordinates for the next stage. Return the most difficult code to us, and you will receive an equivalent number of tickets. These tickets will be placed in a hat, and a winner will be drawn. The winner of the “How Far Can You Go” drawing will receive a prize. This is not a timed race, but submissions need to be in by 1:45 pm so we have time to check your codes against the master list.
FTF Hangman Race

Throughout the day, we will add a number to FTF Hangman (N _ _ _ _._ _ _ W _ _ _ _ _._ _ _ ) which will reveal the cache’s coordinates. The first person industrious enough to figure out where we hid the cache will receive the FTF prize inside. A number will be added each half hour, so be sure to check back to the pavilion periodically.
Kid-Friendly Caches

We have been asking some of our volunteer kid-friendly cache hiders to add to the kids’ caching fun. More details will be included in the brochure at the event.

Creative Cache Container Making Contest

Back by popular demand, camo a container and submit it to win a prize! The cache needs to be constructed in such a way that it could actually be placed as a cache in the wild. It must be able to stand up to the elements without falling apart or leaking. You must include a log book, and the cache name should be written on it. When you check in and enter your cache, you will be assigned a number; this number will be written on the first page of the log. One voting slip will be handed to each person on check in. There will be three blanks so you can vote for one cache out of each of the three categories (Best Camouflage, Best Craftsmanship, and Most Creative). When you vote, use the number on the first page of the log to indicate which cache you are voting for. You can vote until 1:30 pm; the votes will be tallied at that time. Prizes will be awarded during the "Awards and Door Prizes" time.

Temporary Cache Finding Contest

Also back by popular demand, find the temporary caches hidden in the park and win!!

The GPX file can be uploaded to your GPS either the day of the event or the week after we hide the temps on 4/25/09. Please use the honor system and do not attempt to find them ahead of time.

A letter will be written on the outside of each of the temp caches’ log books so that you can "prove" that you found it. When you finish finding temporary caches for the day (before 2:00 pm), check in and receive the number of tickets equivalent to the caches you found. These tickets will be placed in a hat, and a winner will be drawn. The winner of the Temp Cache Finding Contest’s drawing will receive a prize. This is not a timed race, but submissions need to be in by 2:00 pm so we have time to check your codes against the master list.
