Geocache Description:

There is a story passed down through history about our ancestors. As America was settled and families moved to the West, they often found that food was scarce. Some became discouraged and returned to the East. Sometimes, during their search for food, they experienced bitter cold that killed those who were not prepared. Sometimes the danger was other predators searching for food. The bear soon became the creature that was most feared. The bear had sharp claws that could rip a man apart, and a mouth full of teeth and jaws strong enough to crush the skull of an unlucky victim.
But man was not without defenses. He had a gun that could kill the bear. Unfortunately, the guns of that time were often muzzle-loaders with only one shot that had to fly true to bring down the bear before he reached his victim. If the shot was true and the bear was killed, the hunter brought home the meat for his family, and they were no longer hungry.
The moral of this story is, “Sometimes you get the bear, and sometimes the bear gets you.”

I recently told this story to my grandchildren. I explained that in today’s time, we do not have to fear the bear. They do not live around Clinton. But soon they may discover that there is another type of modern day “Bear” that does live here.
Some day, when they go to school, something will go wrong and the teacher gets angry with them, maybe for talking when they shouldn’t. Then, during recess, they’re friend says something that makes them feel like they don’t have a friend any more. I then explain that they will feel like they have been knocked down and dragged around in the dirt. Then I tell them, “That is the new Bear, and on that day, ‘The Bear got you.’ You weren’t bitten or clawed by a real bear. It just feels like it, because it hurts down inside of you.
Just remember that some day, maybe tomorrow, you’ll get an “A” on the test, you make two new friends, and you come in 2nd in the 100 yard dash. When you get home, Mom gives you a hug for cleaning your room without being told. You feel so good that you think, “I’m so great, I could get a bear.” And then you realize that “You did get the Bear.”

See our logs for GC1PG88 and GC1PH7Y for the fun we had with this story.

Fellow Cachers, it’s time for a Bear Hunt. All of the clues/information/hints are on this cache page or by reconnaissance on the playing field.
Remember, no one gets hurts and it’s all for fun. It’s not in a tree.

If you search and can not find – “The Bear Got You!”
Please log a DNF, let us laugh together, and try again.
Perhaps next time “You’ll Get The Bear.”

The first party to sign the log in the micro will not go hungry. They will be able to dine on "The Bear" with a $20.00 gift card at Village Inn in Clinton.
Arrangments for delivery of the gift card will need to be made.

Effective November 8, 2009, after a discussion with cachers who have found this cache, the Difficulty rating has been raised from 3-stars to 4-stars. The Terrain rating remains at 4-star.

Congratulations to the impromptu ‘Three Musketeers” team of H2O BUOY, Cosmic Cachers, and T-Team Racing for achieving FTF.
