Geocache Description:

The Great American Cleanup is the nation’s largest organized annual cleanup. It encourages citizens to get involved in their own communities. Millions of volunteers nationwide take part in the Great American Cleanup each spring.

Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup, the nation's largest community improvement program, takes place annually from March 1 through May 31, involving an estimated 3 million volunteers and attendees. The hardworking volunteers donated more than 5.2 million hours in 2009 to clean, beautify and improve more than 32,000 communities during more than 30,000 events in all 50 states and beyond. Activities included beautifying parks and recreation areas, cleaning seashores and waterways, handling recycling collections, picking up litter, planting trees and flowers, and conducting educational programs and litter-free events.

WHAT WE WILL DO: Clean up the area around the Milwaukee County Parks Administration Building including the Monarch Trail. Given enough volunteer Geocachers, we will also clean up Underwood Parkway and Menomonee River Parkway. Clean-up supplies will be provided through “Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful”.

DATE: Saturday April 24 - This is being done in conjunction with Earth Week 2010. Earth Day celebrates its 40th Anniversary on April 22.

TIME: 1 PM until approximately 4 PM

WHEN WE ARE DONE: Snacks and door prizes will be provided.

ALSO: This will be a great time to swap geocoins and travel bugs. There are also many permanent geocaches and even a benchmark hidden in these parkways.
