Tombe etrusche dei Marmini
Poco distante dal centro di Volterra si trovano due tombe etrusche di epoca ellenistica ( 3° - 1° sec. a.C.). Sono le uniche, sopravvissute alle centinaia, che alla fine del 1800 sono state riportate alla luce nell’area dei Marmini. La loro struttura è molto semplice, costituita da camere scavate nel tufo. A differenza delle tombe etrusche di altre città, queste sono prive di decorazioni. Qui venivano deposte le urne con le ceneri dei defunti ed i corredi funerari che le accompagnavano e che ora sono esposti al Museo Guarnacci di Volterra.
Le tombe sono sempre aperte e illuminate, consigliamo di portare una torcia e di visitare le 2 tombe con tutto calma.
Etruscan tombs of Marmini
Not far from the center of Volterra there are two Etruscan tombs of Hellenistic period( IV-I century b.C.).They are the only survivors of hundreds, unearthed at the end of eighteenth century in the area of Marmini. Their structure is very simple, consisting of rooms carved into the stone. Unlike the tombs of the other Etruscan cities, they are undecorated. Inside the tombs took place the urns and a rich funerary set composed by bronzes, pottery and objects used in everyday life of deads.Now the urns are conserved and exhibited at the Museo Guarnacci of Volterra The tombs are always open and lit .
