How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Located on a plateau in the old LaMoille quarry. Tough hike, and some minor rock climbing.

This cache is a green cylinder containing the standard logbook and pencil, along with a couple of trinkits. It's located on top of a rock island in the quarry, near some large iron bolts that are attached to the rock. Please place the container back exactly as it was.

This area was quarried for rocks to create the wing dams that are used to direct the flow of water down the channel. The iron bolts were used to anchor cables that ran a cable line to carry buckets full of rock down to the river.

I suggest parking at the end of the paved LaMoille road and entering the woods at that point. Please do not go up the grass driveway as that is private property. Stay along the edge and work your way up the hill parallel to the highway. Do not go around the edge of the hill, or down the cliff on the side facing the highway.

There are a couple of paths of varying difficulty to get down into the quarry, and a couple of paths onto the rock plateau. Please take your time and be safe, find the best route you can.
