Around the age of opening up Japan, foreigners utilize post office box to gather and distribute international mail. The government starts international mail formally at Yokohama Port Postoffice in 1875. Now still the post office is doing their business at the same place, and you can see the statue of the birthplace: "Postal mail connects the world."
