Bojta: The tree dried out, climbing it may be dangerous for some above a certain weight, so I decided to archive this cache. This was the first tree-climber cache in Baranya county. I am sad to let it go.

Geocache Description:

We are inviting you to a short portion of the 101 km long Mecsek Green Trail to a not very well known area, the Baranya-hegyhát (Baranya Mountainback). It is a 3200 m fairly easy walk (one way), also suitable for mountain bikes, but not for strollers.

Geocoins, Travel Bugs are welcome.

How to get there?
We recommend the village of Kisbattyán as the starting point. Kisbattyán belongs to the city of Komló from an administrative point of view, and therefore one can get there by local bus (number 2/a) from Komló, if necessary. Buses run between Pécs and Komló fairly frequently.
When arriving at Kisbattyán, go all the way down to the other end of the village. You meet the green trail Zöld sáv

here. (See waypoint) Turn left on it. The trail runs near a creek nearly all the way to the cache. Keep this in mind and look for the creek when you don't see the marking.

Things to see
First you will pass meadows, then groves, then you reach the forest. If you come in the early fall, you will be pleased to see the pretty light purple flowers of autumn crocus or meadow saffron.
About 1600 m from the village, taking a 100 m detour on the green Zöld telikör

trail will lead you to the Csonka Ferenc spring.
The area is rich in game, you may see not only animal prints, but a pheasant, hare, fox, deer or wild boar may cross your path.

At the Cache
Near the spring, the dirt road goes up the hill to the right. Don't follow this! The green trail Zöld sáv

goes left on a much less obvious trail. Keep going northwest on this!
Eventually you may notice two huge pine trees. Now you are near the cache. But, don't look for it on the pine!
It may be easier to locate than to retrieve. When you found it, please, leave the cache in place, remove the lid only to get to the content.
Please, don't forget to sign the log! We check on the cache regularly and logs on-line without logs in the actual logbook will be sadly deleted.
During the search you probably noticed the bricks scattered around. How did those get here? A forester's house used to stand here. Besides the bricks the old fruit trees and the daffodils covering several sqm in the spring are telltail signs of people once living here.

Further on the Green Trail
If you feel like hiking on, you will follow the green trail Zöld sáv

climbing up a hill, then going down to the hunting lodge. From here you may keep on the green trail Zöld sáv

, walk through the Szabadság-völgy (Freedom-valley) and reach the village of Kisvaszar. It is an easy 4 km walk first on dirt road, later on a narrow paved road.

Back to Kisbattyán from the Hunting Lodge
If you still have the time and strength, don't want to walk the same trail twice, and don't mind if another cache happens to be in your way we recommend the trail decribed at GC2TJCG . Watch out, the portion will be harder than what you have done already! By the time you get back to Kisbattyán you have walked 10 km.

Advice and Warnings
The area is rich in game, and in season probably in hunters, too. It is better to wear bright colors, and wiser not to hike here at dawn and dusk during hunting season.
If you see a wild boar with its babies, do not approach, it may attack you!
Long pants and hiking boots will make your hike more comfortable.
Don't pick the autumn crocus! It is strictly protected, all parts of it are poisonous, and it wilts very fast. Don't forget to take water, food, and swags with you!
Mosquito and tick repellent may be useful in the summer.
