HOLLYWOOD AMERICAN LEGION POST #43
Hollywood American Legion is a service organization and social club comprised of veterans from various wars and conflicts. They began in 1919 when a group of Famous Players-Lasky Corporation actors led by Taylor N. Duncan received a charter. Cecil B. DeMille later helped them obtain a 1-acre lot at Selma Avenue & N. El Centro Avenue (now a Bally Total Fitness at 1628 N. El Centro Avenue) where Al Jolson had the idea of rebuilding a boxing venue. It was built in 1938 after $16,000 was raised by Theodore Roberts by putting together an A-list melodrama called "In Old Arizona". Eventually, seventeen world championship boxing matches were held at this facility. The building that stands before you was constructed in 1928. Members of this post are represented on fourteen stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. A documentary about the Hollywood American Legion Post #43 is currently in the works.

The building is not open to the public, but they have a museum that's sometimes open on Thursday evenings. In order to visit the Post Bar where the scene was filmed, you need to become a member, but it's an easy process if you are either a veteran yourself or closely related to one. Check out their website to contact them for more information.

BEHIND-THE-SCENES
The fake working title for Star Trek was officially Corporate Headquarters, but, when we filmed here on 4 December 2007, we also went by the additional fake name of Untitled Walter Lace Project to make it harder for paparazzi to find the set. There are at least three fun things to look for in the finished scene. Uhura's menu (see picture #001 above) flashes a picture of Slusho and she also verbally requests it in her list of drinks (Slusho has made an appearance in just about all Bad Robot projects, including Cloverfield and Super 8). The two human men on Kirk's left were played by J.J. Abrams' father and father-in-law. Finally, the bar is decorated with Budweiser memorabilia (see picture #003 above) and Uhura also requests a Budweiser Classic, both because of the corporate deal which allowed us to film in an Anheuser-Busch brewery for certain other scenes of the movie.

CACHE
The cache is located somewhere that's accessible from either the sidewalk or driveway, even if all of the gates are closed. The building owners are aware of the cache, but you must still try to not be seen by anyone there. Note that the adjacent street is a busy thoroughfare for both the Hollywood Bowl and Hollywood & Highland, so be very careful of muggles. Very cafeful. The cache is in plain sight, so please be sure to return it to its exact position so that it blends in properly with the surroundings. Also, I started the cache off with a few small items for trade.
