The tourist map marks this valley of the East-Mecsek as "strenuous trail". Strenuous? - that's true! Trail? - now, that's a bit of an exaggeration!
You will notice the red dot Piros telikör trail marking on some trees, but how you get from one tree to the next is often up to your ingenuity. Across the creek, up on the steep hillside, over large fallen trees, through the scrub, down the steep hillside, across the creek again. And so on.
Add some mud in spring and fall, nettle and mosquito and other annoying tiny insects in the summer, raising water level in early spring, slipperiness in winter. If I couldn't scare you off, go ahead, and have a great hike! If you are not sure whether you would enjoy this, I'd recommend to visit the Maiden-Rock GC2TJCG. You will have a similar experience, just milder.

How to get there by Car?
About 5 km from Zobákpuszta or Magyaregregy, you will see a pull-off the road that provides enough room for 4-5 cars. See waypoint. It is on the opposite side of the road right in front of the entrance of the valley.

This hike is recommended mainly for people traveling by car, because, unfortunately, there is no bus stop between Zobákpuszta and Magyaregregy. (But the bus driver may be willing to stop if you ask him nicely.) Attempting it by bicycle is also not recommended as the terrain of the valley is treacherous.

Hike to the Cache
On the other side of the road from the parking coordinates you will find a sign post. The trail marked with a Zöld sáv green stripe leads you to the castle of Máré, the red dot Piros telikör takes you to Kisújbánya. Choose the red dot Piros telikör! (It is funny that neither of these mark trails actually lead all the way to the places mentioned on the sign.)

On the first 200 meters you will walk on a pleasant dirt road and may think that the terrain is overrated. As you are musing on this, suddenly the creek winds in front of you and this is where the fun starts - and lasts about - 1.5 km (nearly 1 mile). As you are approaching the cache, the valley widens, the terrain gets easier again.

Look for the cache on the right side of the creek (of course, you will be probably at the left side at this point).

Hikes further on from the Cache
If you keep walking on your trail, 180 m from the cache the Piros telikör red dot trail meets the yellow cross Sárga kereszt. If you turn left here, you can hike to the castle of Máré (Márévár), and then from there back to the car on the yellow cross Sárga kereszt and the green stripe Zöld sáv.
If you turn right, the trail leads you to the Hidasi valley.
If stay loyal to the red dot Piros telikör, it soon takes you to a spring, named "Szederindás-kút" where you can refresh and fill your water bottle.
From the spring you can follow the green cross Zöld kereszt, - that turns into blue cross Kék kereszt, shortly - and takes you to the look-out tower of Cigány-hegy (Gipsy mountain) and the Pásztor-forrás, another spring that is located on a beautiful medow GC2J4EQ.
If you had enough just to get to the cache, that's OK, too. Even if you walk back the same way the trail, the water will show a different face.

Things to See
Clearwater creek, deep valley, dragonflies, butteflies, bugs, animla footprints, flowers, Tisztavízu patak, mély szurdokok, szitakötok, lepkék, bogarak, állatnyomok, virágok, lapulevelek, hollow trees.

Advice, Warnings
Long pants, hiking boots or rubber boots are recommended.
Mosquito and tick repellent can come handy in the summer.
Don't forget to take water, food and swag items with you!

I placed this cache to commemorate my grandmother, Jolán Tihanyi (1910-2000) and my grandfather, Dr. György Novotny (1907-1951) who loved hiking around here.
