Geocache Description:

Take a hike on the Pond Trail segment of the Savanna Trail.  Relax and enjoy the view of the pond from one of the many benches placed around the trail.  If you are quiet you may see a deer come by for a drink. Look for the signs the deer have left near the pond where they have rubbed or eaten some small trees.  Listen for the sounds of the frogs croaking and the splash as they jump into the water when you walk by.  A pond could also be the home of another one of Ranger Rick’s friends.  This friend builds a stick and mud dam across a stream, or a large house at the edge of a lake or pond.  If you see stumps of small trees in the area showing tooth marks watch for this critter.  He makes his presence known with a loud slap of his tail as he dives below the water.  When you find the cache read the clue for this animal and stamp his footprint on your passport.  Enjoy your walk around the pond and check out the wildflowers that bloom in the area or munch on a few raspberries along the trail.

This cache is located in an area designated as a State Natural Area with special permission from Thomas Meyer, Conservation Biologist with the State Natural Areas Program of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Heather Wolf, property manager at Buckhorn State park.  Please stay on the designated trails, all caches are located within 20 feet of the trail.   Geocaches placed on Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource managed lands require permission by means of a notification form.
