Stary Hrozenkov

CZ : Obec Stary Hrozenkov, centrum Moravskych Kopanic, se nachazi v malebnem prostredi Chranene krajinne oblasti a dnes jiz i biosfericke rezervace Bile Karpaty.

Poloha na prusmyku predurcila hrozenkovsko jiz k rannemu osidleni. Prve organizovane osidleni vzniklo urcite soucasne s moravskouherskou hranici v 11. stoleti. Krajina trpela vojenskými vpády Tataru, Turku, Kumanu, Kurucu a rady dalsich. Kriticke obdobi preckaval lid v okolnich horach. Život zde byl tvrdy, ztezovany administrativními zasahy vrchnosti, ktere zakazovaly jakoukoliv vyrobu i podomackou, mimo zemedelstvi, coz pak vedlo k hospodarskemu zaostavani kraje. Lid se pak dele drzel svych tradic, címz se zachoval narodopisny sveraz vyjadreny krojem, vysívkami, pisnemi, narecim, stavbami a zvyky.

Ke kulturnim pamatkam Stareho Hrozenkova nalezi Farni kostel Panny Marie v pozdne baroknim stylu z roku 1774, barokni socha sv. Jana Nepomuckeho a take u rybnika stojici kaple ze 17. stoleti.

K samotné kesce : jedná se o jednoduchou drive in schranku, v jejiz blízkosti lze snadno zaparkovat.

EN : The village of Stary Hrozenkov, centre of the Moravske Kopanice region, is located in the picturesque surroundings of the Nature reserve of White Carpathians.

The location of the Hrozenkov area by the mountain pass had predestined it for early settlements. First organized colonization of the area took place in the 11th century . However, this wasn´t a typical feudal village but more of dispersed settlement throughout the area, that today makes part of different districts such as Zitkov, Vyskovec, Vapenice and till 1791 also Lopenik, including also parts of today´s territories of Moravia and Slovakia. It was a free borderland, called also Hrozne Pusty or Pusty Hrozinkov, which later became Hrozinkow or Rozinkow and , from 19th century till today, Stary Hrozenkov (Old Hrozenkov). The first datable mention of the settlement is from the year 1261, when the lord Smil of Strilky donated a part of the territory, called Vysoka Lhota by the Hrozinkov creek, to the monastery of Smilheim. After 1600, under the dominion of Svetlov castle (Engelsberk), the today´s village of Hrozinkov was founded at the same place, with peasants moving in from nearby farmsteads. The village suffered several attacks from Tatars, Turks, Cumans, Curucs and many others. During these critical periods people use to hide in the nearby mountains. So did many outlaws after the Hussite Wars and the defeat at the Battle of the White Mountain in 1620. The local life was based mainly on cattle and farming. The most common plants were barley and oath, later buckwheat, rye, wheat, beet and potatoes. From the fruit trees plum (for the sliwowitz brandy), apple, pear, walnut, cherry. The fruits were usually dried and then sent to Budapest. The life here was already hard and it was made even harder by the administrative interventions of the nobility who strictly forbidden any other kind of production but farming, which led to the underdevelopment of the region. In this conditions, people remained more faithful to their traditions, that are today well preserved, with all their costumes, embroideries, dialects, monuments and customs. Among the monuments of Stary Hrozenkov we find the church of the Virgin Mary, built in the late baroque style in 1774, the baroque statue of St. John of Nepomuk and also a chapel from the 17th century, situated by the lake. In 1956 was build the new school building, that dominates the view of all the Kopanice region. Every year a traditional Kopanice celebration is being held, with the participation of several brass bands from both sides of the moravian-slovak border. Also, many people still wear the traditional Kopanice costumes and celebrate the old customs.

When the country split in 1993, Stary Hrozenkov gained strategic importance as one of the most important border checkpoints between Czech and Slovak Republic. After the 1991 the village of Stary Hrozenkov witnesses a lot of urban development. As for the cache itself: it´s a simple drive in box, with a parking place nearby. Please don´t let yourself notice too much when looking for it and put it back afterwards, in the same spot.

Since I live far away, I don´t have time to check the cache very often, therefore I would like to ask the finders to keep the box in order, like putting a clean log sheet or a new pencil, thanks.
