Mollydulla Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Gill & Tony: After a recent DNF following a very specific hint, I decided to check it out.

The container had gone and the area where it was hidden had been enlarged, making replacing it very awkward. I have, therefore, decided to archive this one.

This two-stage cache will take you from Sandridge Memorial Gardens in Mollymook to Ulladulla Harbour.

The posted co-ordinates are at the entrance to Sandridge Memorial Gardens.  Your mission is to find a series of grave markers and use the information on them to get the final coordinates which will take you to Ulladulla Harbour, a short drive away.  You will definitely need a pencil and paper or, possibly, a calculator as much addition is needed.

Once you arrive at the posted co-ordinates and enter the cemetery, follow the road round to the car park. Close to the car park, you will find Harold William Kendall and Violet Jane Kendall.  Note the two-digit number which occurs in both their details and multiply that by the day number on which she died.  This answer is “A”.

Now turn round and to your right is a red brick path.  As you walk along this you will see Kladis to your left, Zack (or Jack), whose monument contains a dolphin, on the path and Evans to the right ahead of you.  Start near Zack, where you will find Mary Anne Broughton Gambell and William Gambell.  Take the day number on which she died and subtract it from A.  This total is the last 3 digits of the Easterly Co-ordinate E 150.28.yyy. (The checksum is 17)

Whilst with the Gambells, start a new sum, by adding together their ages at death.  Now go to Kladis and add the age at which Dimitrios died.  Now go to Evans.  Nearby you will find Jean Smart.  Add the age at which she died.  Near to her is Lillian Alice Gumley.  Add the 2-digit number formed by the last two digits of the year she was born.

Now walk back along the red brick path, turn left and follow the road round to the right.  You will see a memorial to Tory Puglisi OAM.  Near him is Giuseppi (Joe) Puglisi.  Add the number of his children.

Finally, add 5.  The final total is the last 3 digits of the Southerly Co-ordinate S35.21.xxx. (The checksum is 13)

Once you have found the co-ordinates, perhaps you might like to spend some time enjoying Mollymook beach.  The car park is only a few hundred metres away from the cemetery at the waypoint shown. There are a few places there for lunch, other caches within walking distance, swimming, surfing and just relaxing.

The waypoint in Ulladulla is in the Harbour car park, at the start of the breakwater path and in front of the council warning sign.  GZ is a short walk along the breakwater path. You will not need to climb on any rocks to find the cache.  Avoid this area in very windy conditions or when the sea is very rough, as the path is exposed and waves can break over the path.  Under normal conditions, the path is wheelchair accessible all the way to within a couple of metres of the cache, but you will need to walk to find it. Now that Council have finished their landscaping, it is posible to drive much nearer to GZ and park near the foot of a set of stairs. This will increase the terrain rating as those stairs have to be climbed.

BYO pen as there is no pen in the cache

The second Sunday in the month sees the Marine rescue markets, so there will be far more muggles about than usual.  However, the cache is hidden from direct view of all except others walking on the path.
