Dolphin Point Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Gill & Tony: I went down to check this one today and it has, indeed, gone.

The area where it was hidden is now overgrown with small bushes and shrubs and i could find no nearby location where a hide would not lead to this vegetation being badly disturbed. I have, therefore, decided to archive the cache.

Welcome to Dolphin Point, one of the lesser known rocky beaches in the Ulladulla area.  There is no access to the cache from the top road. Please park in the car park shown as WP1 which is not visible from the top road and is only accessible via a one-way system. Once you have parked, please follow the beach round the headland to the cache coordinates. You do not need to climb the cliff as the cache is easily accessible from the broad rock ledge.

Dolphin point is good for swimming in the lake, rock fishing and surfing. The terrain may be higher than 2.5 particularly at full high tide as the water and waves can reach the cliff face. Public toilets are available.

Dolphin point is the place where Burrill Lake exits to the ocean.  The entrance sometimes closes but, when open, the lake flushes in and out with the tides.  It is a popular spot for surfers and rock fishermen as well as families. There are plenty of rock pools to keep youngsters amused but, as always, keep an eye on small children near water. There can be a strong current in the entrance channel but it is usually possible to wade over to Burrill Beach.

The cache is located around the headland at beach level.  There is no marked path and the route involves some rock scrambling.  Once within a few metres of GZ, there is a short climb (about 1m) up to a rock shelf.  Nothing too difficult, but the area can become slippery when wet. Once on this shelf, the cache is easily accessible without any further climbing.

The cache is a small Sistema container with a pen, log book and a few small swaps. FTF honours to ashlaughton
