The whole area is connected to the oil industry which was "born" here in hungary. Along the streets and in the woods around Bázakerettye you can find many oil-wells, some of them are still working. The water of Kistolmács Lake comes from a spring created by an exploratory explosion, when mineral oil was searched for in the valley. The first exploratory drilling in Hungary took place in the Budafapuszta botanic garden in 1937.
