Geocache Description:

Cache is located on a small lake along the new San Juan Ridge Trail. Many sub-alpine meadows and ponds can be enjoyed on route. The trail is in sharp contrast to the Juan de Fuca trail about 1000m in elevation below.

I was finally successful on reaching this little dot on my old contour map. My first two attempts were thwarted by heavy snow, my last by my exhausted young children. I almost blew it this time by accidentally deleteing the co'rds from my GPS.
There is a few routes one could try, but the one via Butler Main is the most scenic. These logging roads may be closed during fire season and business hours.
Just past the 19km marker on Butler Main a bridge crosses the upper Jordan River(a popular gold panning spot). Beyond take the Walker Creek Road that veers left. This is at the 34km marker (on a different km system than Butler's).This road climbs steeply but on this trip was passible in the family station wagon.
Just short of the 38k marker is a great view point affording views of nearby Walker Creek, the hills toward Jordan River and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
At 39k the road forks, stay right, the locked road to the left might provide access but I'm not sure.
Beyond this point check out the open hillsides, bears are common, as are deer at times and occasionally a herd of Elk wonder through.
30 metres past a large pond on the left watch for the trail head heading up the bank. 48'31.818 N / 124'00.272 W. Park at the landing just beyond the gate at the 43 km marker. The landing affords views of a high basin and the upper San Juan River valley below.
The trail follows through several very scenic meadows and then decends a short distance to the destination. Bring a camera. I borrowed one of the canoes left at a well developed campsite at the lake. Wish I'd taken a fishing rod. The cache should be pretty easy to find. Watch out for the big frog that guards it.
On the way back you may want to take a short cut at 48'31.857 N / 124'01.239 near a foot bridge. Strike out NNW and you should intercept the road back within 100m
The trail is a little overgrown and new, wear long pants. Bring a camera, bug dope and maybe a fishing rod. Time wise, I made it home before noon.
