Zaczyna on bowiem od św. Jana Chrzciciela na pustyni, a lew najbardziej kojarzył się wówczas z pustynią. Wspominają go jako "Jana zwanego Markiem", syna Marii, która prawdopodobnie była właścicielką domu, w którym odbyła się Ostatnia Wieczerza. On tam był i towarzyszył Jesusowi opisując jego życie.
Po śmierci ciało św. Marka zostało sprowadzone do Wenecji, której jest patronem, gdyż podczas sztormu udzielił pomocy miejscowym żeglarzom. Wizerunek lwa św. Marka można w Wenecji spotkać w wielu miejscach. Zwykle trzyma on otwartą księgę ze słowami: "Pax tibi Marce, evangelista meus" (Pokój z tobą Marku, mój ewangelisto). Święty Marek jest też patronem pisarzy, notariuszy, murarzy, koszykarzy i szklarzy oraz miast: Bergamo, Wenecji, a także Albanii. Przyzywany podczas siewów wiosennych oraz w sprawach pogody.
W Mielcu jego imię noszą dwa kościoły, a trzeci przeniesiono do skansenu
w Kolbuszowej.
Nad brzegiem Wisłoki oglądać możemy zbudowany w latach 1792-1795 murowany, w stylu późnobarokowym kościółek, który początkowo był kaplicą cmentarną. Dzisiaj jest piękną częścią historycznej mieleckiej starówki. Warto go odwiedzić i zachwycić się widokami okolicznych bulwarów.

He ultimately starts from St. John the Baptist in the desert, consequently the lion was then most strongly associated with the desert. They remembered him as "John called Mark", the son of Mary, who was the owner of the house of the Last Supper. He was there and accompanied Jesus, describing his life. After St. Marks's death, his body was brought to Venice, whose patron he is, and during the storm he helped local sailors. The image of the St. Marks`s Lion can be found in many places in Venice. St. Mark is also a patron of writers, notaries, bricklayers, basketmakers and glaziers and some cities such as Bergamo, Venice, and Albania. He is summoned during the spring crops and in weather issues. In Mielec, two churches takes its name from him, and the third has been brought to the herritage park in Kolbuszowa. On the banks of Wisłoka, we can see a brick-built church, late baroque church built in the years 1792-1795, which was originally a cemetery chapel. Today, it is a beautiful part of historical old town of Mielec. It is worth visiting and admiring the views of the surrounding boulevards.
