Torn dels Orfes
Barcelona
English
You are in front of a strange window, the lathe of the orphans.
We are faced with the Casa de la Misericòrdia which opened in 1583. It is part of a monastery of the nuns of the Sisters of Charity that took over the abandoned children.
When someone wanted to leave a baby anonymously, he left it in the outer part and made the wheel turn, in such a way that the baby went to the hospice. The hole in the upper left corner of the wall, was an eye function, and also a box of alms that the nuns collected and used to finance the operation of the hospice.
