Historia Warszawskich wysokościowców sięga 1908 roku, gdy do użytku oddano budynek PAST (GC466CA). Mierzący 51 metrów ośmiopiętrowy budynek był wówczas najwyższy w całym Imperium Rosyjskim. Odrobinę wyżej w 1934 sięgnął Prudential (GC7YJ2A) - 66 metrów. Działania wojenne znacząco zmieniły krajobraz miasta, tworząc miejsce na nowego króla wysokości. W 1955 roku ukończono budowę Pałacu Kultury i Nauki. Mierząc 237 metrów do dziś pozostaje najwyższym budynkiem Warszawy.
Plac budowy który widzisz ponad swoją głową, to wznoszący się w górę gmach Varso Tower. Już w przyszłym roku ten kolos osiągnie łączną wysokość 310 metrów. Zostawiając PKiN daleko w tyle, stanie się piątym pod względem wysokości budynkiem w Europie (przed nim znajdować się będą jedynie cztery giganty z Moskwy i Petersburga) i zarazem najwyższym na terenie Unii Europejskiej (wyprzedzając londyński The Shard o zaledwie 0,4 metra!).
Centrum Stolicy zaczęło przypominać jeden wielki plac budowy, a na każdym kroku z ziemi wyłaniają się szkielety przyszłym drapaczy chmur. Warszawa posiada obecnie 24 ponad stumetrowe wieżowce (kolejnych 9 jest już w budowie, a 13 w planach). W najbliższych latach Warszawski skyline zmieni się nie do poznania i nie zapowiada się, by miasto miało przestać piąć się w górę – w końcu dziś jedyną granicą jest niebo.

The history of Warsaw skyscrapers dates back to 1908, when the PAST building (GC466CA) was put into use. Measuring 51 meters, the eight-storey building was then the highest in the whole Russian Empire. A bit higher in 1934 it reached Prudential (GC7YJ2A) - 66 meters. The warfare significantly changed the landscape of the city, creating a place for a new king of heights. In 1955 the Palace of Culture and Science was completed. Measuring 237 meters it remains today the highest building in Warsaw.
The construction site you can see above your head is the rising building of Varso Tower. Next year this colossus will reach a total height of 310 meters. Leaving PKiN far behind, it will become the fifth tallest building in Europe (only four giants from Moscow and St. Petersburg will be located above it) and at the same time the highest building in the European Union (ahead of London's The Shard by only 0.4 meters!).
The city centre began to resemble one huge construction site, and skeletons of the future skyscrapers emerge from the ground at every step. Warsaw currently has 24 skyscrapers over a hundred metres high (another 9 are already under construction and 13 are planned). In the coming years the Warsaw skyline is going to change a lot and there are no plans for the city to stop growing up – after all, the sky is the limit.
