Find and Document American Indian Trail Trees!
These trees are a vanishing artifact of our American
Heritage!
Let's go find them...
Trail trees are trees that were modified by the American
Aboriginal peoples in order to signify trails, campsites, or
special locations (water supply, food, safety, etc.). Often these
were oak saplings that are given a unique bend, usually pointed in
the direction of the point of interest.

The coordinates given for this cache are for a tree that I just
recently located in southern Tennessee (see above). It is a
magnificant trail tree that points straight toward a cave entrance
where there is a nearly permanent water flow and a good source of
shelter (and maybe salt, too). It's the uphill entrance of a
significant cave, so in the winter it would be a terrific source of
warmth (as hot air rises--uphill entrances typically "blow" warm
air, usually 55-60 degrees in Tennessee, when the outside air is
cold).

All finds must be approved by the cache
owner
I reserve the right to delete logs which do not fit the appropriate
criteria. Too many inappropriate finds...
- Log your finding and include a picture of you, the tree, and
your GPS (all in the same picture). Be sure to upload your picture
within 48 hours of posting your find.
- Log the coordinates, city and state and/or national location of
the trail tree.
- We encourage you to log any history or details about the trail
tree that you are aware of.
- A particular tree can only be documented by the first
finder, but if you find more than one, feel free to document
it!
- Please make sure your find has not already been found by
checking the cache log entries for recent finds.
- If you have questions about a potential find, PLEASE
refer to the links above or the cache owner. A bent tree in the
woods does not count.
Thank you, good luck, and I look forward to your logs!
