Geocache Description:

A tribute-ary cache for Waterboy with Wife (www) to celebrate 200 cache finds.

The cache is located near the PULPIT ROCK overlook (1,582' above sea level) near the town of Hamburg, PA. Parking at Hamburg Reservoir lot - N40 35.012 W75 56.519.

PULPIT ROCK can be found by traveling north on the Appalachian Trail from the Hamburg Reservoir. The AT in PA has a reputation as the rockiest section of the trail, so be prepared for rocky terrain & wear sturdy hiking boots. A good walking stick and plenty of water are also a good idea. Of course you will want to bring binoculars and a good camera as we observed several hawk & an eagle from the overlook!

There is a little elevation gain of about 1,000' from the parking lot to the top of PULPIT ROCK - this should not present any problem to those who are reasonably fit. The entire round trip hike to top & back is about 5 miles. There is a bit of 'rock scrambling' involved but nothing that those familiar with the AT will mind.

From the Hamburg Reservoir parking lot, walk around the metal gate that blocks vehicle access to the gravel access road. There is a detailed map board & notices that you might take a good look at.

Follow the blue blazes up the gravel access road for approx. 1/2 mile to the intersection with the AT. Follow the white blazes (AT) to the right & immediately cross a small bridge over Furnace Run Creek. After crossing the creek, follow the AT to the right & continue following the white blazes all the way to the top of PULPIT ROCK. Be careful not to lose the trail by keeping your eye on the white blazes (more than a few are quite faded).

The trail will switchback to the left & begin to climb more steeply as you near the base of PULPIT ROCK. As you round the base of PULPIT ROCK, keep alert for the white blazes at the AT makes a sharp right turn up the rocks to the top of PULPIT ROCK. Scramble up the rocks following the white blazes to reach the summit. You'll know that you are there when you are greeted with a magnificent view to the east & a sign on a tree that says 'PULPIT ROCK 1,582' elevation.'

Once you have found the cache, you can backtrack on the AT following the white blazes to the access road near the reservoir & back to the parking lot. Or you may extend your hike on to the PINNACLE Cache which is another 2 miles due north/westerly on the AT.
