Several of us local cachers have
discussed the need for more challenging caches to find. So I decided to create the GPS Knowledge
Challenge. Not only must you find
several microcaches in order to complete this course,
you must know your GPS history.
Why is this so difficult you might ask. Well there are 9 microcache
points over a 1.5 mile route. Each microcache (Altoids Tin) has a
question related to the history of GPS.
Each question has 3 possible answers with an associated set of
coordinates. Get them right and your can
complete this cache in under 3 hours. Get them wrong and you will be backtracking.
The terrain level may increase to Level 4 in the summer
months when the vegetation is fully leaved. Each micro is located within a couple of
hundred feet of a main trail. But that
trail won’t necessarily lead you to the next cache point.
In total there are 9 correct microcache
points, 9 false microcache points and
one final point containing the
booty. The final point is a 12" Black
Pelican Case.
If you complete this challenge you will find a nice
reward. I’ve stocked it with over $50
worth of Geocaching items.
Initial
items include:
First
Finder Certificate
Airborne
Ranger Travel Bug
4 Geocaching
Compass Keychains
4 Geocaching
Black/Khaki Patchs
8 Geocaching Pencils
1 Geocaching
Official Logbook (for the taking)
2 MiniMag
Flashlights
1 Panasound AutoScan Radio
As you can see, I’ve tried to provide items that make the
effort worth the trip. If you attempt
the cache please keep in mind the quality of the contents for
future cachers.
