The Easter Egg Hunt
The following is a work of Fiction. It is not about anybunny we know.
One morning, Peter Cottontail yawned, stretched, and rolled over. He opened one eye and noticed a small purple crocus flower blooming. He
began sniffing the air and sneezed. "Roses", he thought, "I can smell roses."
Peter leaped to his feet. "It's time," he
thought, "it's time. I must awake everybody. The earth is coming to life! It's waking up!! The earth is waking up! I must hurry and tell everybody." Peter hopped to the trail and began shouting, "Wake up, everybody. Wake up. The earth is coming to life!"
Then animals began to awake everywhere. Even the Spring chickens heard the shouting, and trotted to the trail.
Soon hundreds of animals were at the trail to greet Peter Cottontail. The whole bunny trail was a chorus of animals excitedly claiming, "Spring is here. The earth is coming to life!"
Peter found a large rock and hopped on top of it to address everybody. "Okay, everybody, quiet down." All eyes and ears focused on Peter Cottontail. "I would like to thank everybody for coming," he said. "I hope you all got enough rest this winter." The animals chuckled and nodded, yes. "Good, he said. Because we all know what time it is again. The Easter egg hunt is only a few weeks away. Last year you did a great job, so you can all give yourself a hand for that." All the animals began to applaud.
"I do need to mention though that last year we barely had enough eggs in some areas. So that we don't run short of eggs, we'll need to increase production this year. "Oh my," cackled the chickens.
"Now I know that's a lot," said Peter, "but remember, it's for the kids." "We'll do our best," clucked the Chickens. "You can count on us boss," clucked another.
"Great!" said Peter Cottontail. "I appreciate everybody's positive attitude. I always know I can count on you every year. I would like to compliment you all on a job well done last year on painting and hiding the Easter eggs."
"But there is always room for improvement, so lets be a little more careful this year in where we hide the eggs. Some children complained that the eggs were hidden in places too high up for them to reach. So lets not get in a hurry when hiding the eggs."
"You got it boss."
"Okay, lets get started everybody," shouted Peter. "We all know what needs to be done."
So, the work began for the Easter egg hunts. As the Spring chickens laid the eggs, they sang- "Here comes Peter Cottontail, Hopping Down the Bunny Trail...
The bunnies went to work painting the eggs all different colors. They matched the egg colors to the colors of the flowers. Soon the entire earth was filled with the sounds of the animals getting ready for the Easter egg hunts.
The Easter Bunny soon came hopping around making sure all was going well and answering questions. As he saw the bunnies hiding the completed eggs, he told them, "be sure and hide the eggs in a good location, so that nothing happens to the eggs before the children locate them."
Today, the Easter Bunny filled a special basket full of goodies and hid it in a secret place that the children will not be able to find until they find all the eggs.
Then, the job was completed.
The most fun part was still yet to come for them. All the animals enjoy hiding in the woods so they can watch the happy children find the Easter eggs.
We hope you enjoy The Easter Egg Hunt.
