Geocache Description:

Pigeon River Wetlands

Recommended parking is the wayside at N 43 47.240, W 87 43 707. This parking area is available from 6am to 10pm daily.

This is an 2-part multicache. Part one (the above coordinates) is a small cammo container which contains the coordinates to the main stash. The main stash is a cammo-painter .30 cal ammo can.

This area is undeveloped and overgrown. There are large areas of wetlands (Watch your step!) with some forested areas. It's honey-combed with trails: some are wide and well-established, while others are just deer trails. Both legs of the cache are placed near trails; bushwhacking isn't recommended -- unless you've brought hip-waders or a canoe ;) -- since it's very easy to find yourself knee deep in swapwater. This is a dog-friendly area, so feel free to bring Fido. You may encounter other dog owners, people fishing, or wayward teenagers, but most of the time the park is pretty quiet.

The is a very pretty area with abundant wildlife. The river attracts ducks and geese and is full of fish. There are deer in the forests. There are turtles and snakes. I've seen blue herons and muskrats. Of course, since it's mostly wetlands, you'll also encounter millions of the state bird of Wisconsin, the mosquito. So I highly recommend repellant in the late spring, summer, and fall. Also, the trails an be pretty wet in the spring or after a lot of rain, and the trails get pretty overgrown in the late summer. Good luck.

Note 11/26/05 - Winter Rules:

Sometimes they close the parking area completely for the winter. Street parking is okay. The caches will become very hard to find with any deep snow cover and the paths are not used much in the winter, so you may have to break your own snow trail. Also, the river is usually not more than waist-deep, but in the spring or after a thaw it can get deeper and dangerously fast. I don't recommend walking on it, so do so at your own risk. Same with the swampy areas of the park. You do not have to walk on the river or in the swampy areas to reach either leg of this cache. Thanks, and be safe!

Note: Main cache was muggled and replaced on 8/15/06. It's in a much much better hiding spot now, but it's not quite at "the end of the line" anymore. If you want to see the end of the line, and the location of the original cache, just keep going down the rocky trail until it ends.

Note2: Muggled again and replaced 3/18/07. It's now about 20 ft north of the old location so if you are having trouble finding it, check a little to the north. Thanks.
