Come beat the heat of the midsummer and join the CCGC and the
GBA for a weekend of hiking, campfires, and friendship, at the
9,000 foot level in Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite National
Park. The work portion of this trip is slated for Sunday,
July 22, 2007. The work will commence early on Sunday morning
and will conclude in the early to mid afternoon to allow folks time
to pack things up and drive back during daylight hours. We
have campsites set aside for our group from Friday evening, July
20, through Monday afternoon on July 23 (did I mention that the
campsites are free?)

Just like the Fourth Law of Ecology, you can't get
something for nothing. The work portion of this trip
will involve restoring, fixing, or otherwise repairing the picnic
tables in the Tuolumne Meadows Campground.
Update 7/17/07: I talked with the Ken the
Maintainence Supervisor and unfortunately the parts for the picnic
tables have not come in yet. As a back up, we will in all
likelihood do the standard ash clean up in the firepits type
job. Sorry for the sudden change. Stuff happens.
All the tools, safety instructions, and know-how
will be supplied by Worksite Supervisor of the Park Service (who
shows no resemblance to the adjacent animated gif). You will
be responsible for brining your own camping gear. The
campsites set aside for the work crew are for tent camping
only. If you wish to bring your RV or pop-up camper, you will
need to make reservations on your own at the following site:
Yosemite
Campground Reservations.
A free Gate Pass to enter Yosemite National Park
will be made available for download on this Event Page a week or
two prior to the Event.
When: As mentioned earlier, we have a
group of adjacent campsites set aside for our group that will be
available from July 20-23. You can stay for all, or part of
that time. The work portion of the Event is July 22, bright
and early. In order to log an "Attended" log for this CITO
Event, you must participate with the work crew on July
22.
**Note**: Under the "New" Guidelines, we
could conceivably break this weekend into separate daylong
Events. I chose not to do so, but if someone wants to take it
upon themselves to Host a "Pancake Breakfast", or a "Smore Contest"
Event, feel free to do so. I would be happy to assist with
any add-on Events if needed.
How To Get There:
From the North, take Hwy 120 to Yosemite National
Park. At Crane Flats you'll take 120 East towards Tuolumne
Meadows/Lee Vining. From the South you can take Hwy 140
through Yosemite Valley to the same junction at Crane Flat and
follow Hwy 120 for approximately 60 miles to Tuolumne
Meadows. The campground is just East of the Tuolumne Store
and gas station.
From the East, follow Hwy 120 from Lee Vining to
Tuolumne Meadows.
**Warning**: Make sure you have a full tank of gas
before you leave Crane Flat (the last reliable gas station).
I have been surprised in the past with the Tuolumne Meadows gas
station being closed for repairs, so I wouldn't count on it.
The closest gas station (if the Tuolumne Meadows station is
closed), is a long steep coast down to Lee Vining from Tioga
Pass.
