I wrote this book in hopes of inspiring a change of heart. I know many of you who geocache love open spaces and wild places as much as I do. I know your adventures in caching have likely brought you to quaint little towns and vibrant cities — places that people thought were special enough to share with others. That's why I thought you'd be just the kind of people to help me spread this message. My hope is to get this book into the hands of as many people as possible. To say this book is just about urban sprawl wouldn't exactly be true. This book is about people — their homes, their lives, their spirits. It's about the American Dream — what it means, and how we go about attaining it. It's about our front lawns and our basketball hoops. Our weekday commute. Our dreams and demands. Our apprehensions and regrets. It's about Applebee's and Best Buy and Pottery Barn and parking lots It's about the land that sustains our stomachs as well as our souls. It's about growing further away from that which we can't quite put our finger on. It's about the "big story" that is happening from one town to the next, across the United States.
