About This Item

Bike Awareness Nomad

This coin is in memory of Todie Phillips of Manitou Beach, MI. He passed away August 12 2008 as a result of a motorcycle accident, he was only 49 years old.

I have a couple of cacher friend who bike and so I released this coin to help them as well

In addition to setting a good example and always wearing a helmet yourself, here are ten tips to teach your children to encourage safe bike riding:

1. Always wear a bike helmet
2. Stop and check traffic before riding into a street
3. Don't ride at night
4. Obey traffic signs and signals
5. Ride on the right-hand side of the street
6. Check your brakes before riding
7. Give cars and pedestrians the right-of-way
8. Wear light or bright-colored clothing so that motorists can see you
9. Be extra careful turning left - motorists don't expect it
10. Avoid broken pavement, loose gravel and leaves - which can cause you to lose control of your bike.

Every year about 800 people die in the U.S. from bicycle crashes, help keep your child safe!

I've found some geocaches while biking, so this is a good geocoin for me.

I discovered this back in Dec of 09'. I was just hit by a bike last week on 5/7/10 and the woman took off on me. I managed to chase her down and then proceeded to get into an argument with her and tell her how wrong she was. There are times that people have no remorse for their actions and one should realize that, you need to look out for your own safety. It would be great to feel that others would look out for you but, I will probably never trust anyone in a car. I was unfortunate enough to lose my cool and not become an ambassidor of car-bike relations a do something shameful but, ....My point had to get across to her that she hit me and ran off. I've made a change to try and keep my cool on my bike and never do that again. I hope Bike awareness grows and that we all do revert to our darkside. Good Luck and Watch for cars!
