This cache is located in one of the Most beautiful spots in the world: The Straits of Mackinac, located between Mackinac City (on Michigan's Lower Penninsula) and St. Ignace (in Michigan's UP). When I though about how to help this travel bug get around the world, I decided to take it back to my home state, a few hours north of where I Grew up. So, that's how i picked this location near the Mackinac Bridge! Which we're visiting to participate in the annual Labor Day Bridge Walk, so we decided to move the travel bug a bit further west. This is a popular vacation destination and an area rich in history. You can visit colonial Fort Michilimackinac, built by the French in 1715 (relocated to the nearby Mackinac Island in 1781, which is best known as a tourist destination for fudge and for allowing no motorized vehicles on the island; everyone arrives by ferry and gets around on the island by foot, bicycle, or horse and carriage, just like back in the old days!) and became a hub for the fur traders and Indians.

The bridge itself, also known as the "Mighty Mac," is the third largest suspension bridge in the world and the largest suspension bridge inthe western hemisphere. It spans 3800 feet between its pillars, which incidentally, is the longest span Between cable anchorages anywhere in the world. It connects Michigan's upper and lower peninsulas, And opened to traffic in 1957.

This was a fun outing, and it was the first travelbug I have ever found! The journey to this local was a true adventure; we had to go way out of the way to get to the cache site because the bridge across the Allegheny was closed. We also drove our car down a perilous 2 track that we were not sure we'd be able to get back out of. When we found the waterfall and hiked up to the cache, it was a really pretty walk; the cache took awhile to find because we are new to caching and have thus far been caching with the Car TomTom GPS, but my husband managed to spot it.

This bug is headed "up north" in about two weeks when my husband and I go to Northern Michigan near the Mackinac Bridge. We'll find a cache and send it on its way. :)
