About This Item

SWGHL

This is an actual medal the girls won.

South Western Girls Hockey League (SWGHL) was formed in 1999 to give girls in southern Ontario and western New York a place to play competitive hockey. Central West and Southern Ontario Girls Hockey Confederation merged together to form the new league. There were teams from the USA from Erie PA, Buffalo and Rochester NY. The teams in Ontario were from Niagara Falls to Hamilton then up to Kitchen, London and Windsor. There were over 150 teams in the league.

Late in 2006 SWGHL merged with teams in the Toronto, Barrie and Peterborough area to form the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League. It is the largest female hockey league in the world. More info on the LLFHL can be found at http://llfhl.ca
