    Dropped at: The Poor Farm

Iowa County purchased 3 parcels of farm land in 1866 and 1867. At the cost of $2,252.62 for 337.25 acres "for the use of the poor". Over the years four different homes were built. The first in 1868, then 1878, 1911, and 1977. Each time the home was larger and provided an improvement in care. It was first know as the "poor farm". Then the "Iowa County Home". It was privitized in 1980, and becamse "Hillside Estates", closing December 31, 2007. Buried in this one acre cemetary, are residents of the home, county paupers, and others who met death in Iowa County.

Available burial records can be found at Iowa County Historical Society, Williamsburg Historical Commission, Iowa County Geneology Society.
