Hi to Anni

This Geocoin wants to get to Robertson, NSW, Australia so that it can deliver my virtual "hi" to an old friend who moved from Finland to Australia. Please keep it near airports until it lands in Australia so that it has the best possible chance of getting closer to my friend.

The guy on the coin is called Väinämöinen, he's one of the central characters in the Finnish national epic "Kalevala". He has mythical powers that he uses through singing. His instrument (the stringed thing on the left) is made from the jaw bone of a huge pike fish. The fish is pictured on the other side of the coin. More info in Wikipedia

The text on the coin, "Vaka vanha Väinämöinen kätköilevi iäti" is a pun based on the poetic rime of the Kalevala. It means something along the lines of "Steady old Väinämöinen will keep geocaching forever"

The image on the right is a "Hannunvaakuna" which is a traditional symbol associated with good luck in Finland and also quite often associated with Kalevala as well. Hopefully the good luck of the symbol will help the coin find its intended destination.

Anni who is a friend of mine way back from from high school moved to Australia quite a few years ago. I'm eternally thankful to her for helping me meet my wife  Anni and me don't meet as often as I would like and I want to surprise her with a very Finnish thing materialising in the small Australian town she lives in. Hopefully this coin makes the journey all the way around to the other side of the world!
