This Travel Bug is a small replica of Amelia Earhart’s plane, which she called, "The Little Red Bus." The red TB's mission is to fly around the U.S. and possibly the world. Earhart was on a journey to circumvent the world when she disappeared in July 1937 in the Pacific.
There are special places that the red TB plane could go now: to Amelia’s childhood towns of Atchison, Kansas and Des Moines, Iowa. It would also like safe landings near airfields and aviation museums.
Please do not keep it. It is not a toy. Put it in a safe cache so cachers can see and enjoy it. Locked "premium" caches are prefered. Then, we hope that an ethical cacher will take it on another journey where the Little Red Bus can land in a safe place within a month.
Please do not "take it" to "visit" a cache. "Visits" are insignificant and will end up in messy piles of numbers on Amelia's journey map and in long lists of logs down below. We are not concerned with "fly-overs"; we're only interested in the stops where the little red plane lands.
This is a replica of a high-speed cabin monoplane with cantilever wings and streamlined design.
On May 20-21, 1932, Amelia Earhart flew this Vega across the Atlantic Ocean becoming the first woman and only the second person to solo the Atlantic. Vegas were highly prized as racing and record-setting aircraft, and as seven-passenger airliners.
Amelia Earhart bought this Lockheed 5B Vega in 1930 and called it her "Little Red Bus." She set two of her many aviation records in this bright red 5B Vega. In 1932 she flew it alone across the Atlantic Ocean, then later flew it nonstop across the United States-- both firsts for a woman.
Earhart sold her “Little Red Bus” before the venture where she was lost in the Pacific. The Smithsonian Museum now houses it at the National Air and Space Museum. You can find out more about Amelia Earhart's red Lockheed Vega 5B on the Smithsonian’s website.

Our little airplane was stolen yet again. This is a replacement. If you find it, thank you for taking good care of Amelia's Little Red Bus and dropping it into a safe location for it to land. Please be considerate and follow the rules and ethics of geocaching.

We're not exactly grabbing Amelia's Little Red Bus as replacing it. It had been dropped in an unsafe neighborhood cache from which it was stolen. This is nice replacement, and hopefully it will be picked up by an ethical cacher who will put it in a safe cache in accordance with its goals. Enjoy and happy flights. Thank you. 😁
