Peaches is a platypus stuck in the deserts of New Mexico...she wants to get home to Australia and tour the great Down Under!
It’s a bit of mystery how the New Mexico platypi ended up in the Land of Enchantment. Many hypothesize they’ve been here all along, appearing in petroglyphs etched by the Ancients. The abstract rock art might depict the occasional platypus, but that doesn’t explain their desire to go back to Australia. Others say they were castaways on flotsam that made its way up the Rio Grande during the Great Backflow of 1473, but does anyone really think a platypus could survive months at sea on a raft of sticks? It’s obvious to us they arrived in 1947 when the spaceship crashed near Roswell. Specimens gathered by aliens, destined for a distant galaxy, they survived the crash and escaped in a land very different than their own.
Most of the NM platypi are happy to stay in their new home, but a small group, weary of the Hedgehog raiding (a story for another time) and wistful for the Land Down Under, have set off on a return to their ancestral homeland. Please do your part to help these travelers reach Australia.
