The goal of this trackable is to keep travelling but occasionally make its way to the Shreveport Louisiana area, San Diego, or even San Francisco.
The year 2024 marks the 40th anniversary of the first team to win 15 games in the NFL regular season and one of the best teams in NFL history. I thought that I would do a collection honoring those players (9 as of this writing) that are no longer with us.
This trackable is dedicated to the third player of the 1984 Super Bowl Champion San Francisco 49ers to pass away – Gary “Big Hands” Johnson in 2010.
He attended Mitchell High School and later Grambling State.
He played with Fred Dean and Louis Kelcher in San Diego and San Francisco. In Super Bowl XIX, he was named unofficial MVP of that game by Sports Illustrated for the pressure he put on Dan Marino and his ability to stop the Miami running game.
At the time of his death, he was working as an employee of the Horseshoe Casino in Bossier City. He would be a frequent guest of Jack Binion’s Steakhouse. He passed away at LSU Hospital Shreveport after being hospitalized for 2 weeks following a stroke.
The goal of this trackable is to keep travelling but occasionally make its way to the Shreveport Louisiana area, San Diego, or even San Francisco.
If someone from Shreveport remembers him, please feel free to share their stories.
