Hello, my name is Butanding and I am a whale shark. Most of us can be found swimming the warm waters of Donsol, Sorsogon in the Philippines. But being migratory in nature, I travel across the oceans, usually close to the equator. I can also be spotted in the Seychelles and in Puerto Rico, and are well known to swim along the bay of La Paz in Mexico's Baja California.
My goal is to travel these places and all the tropical waters around the world.
Meet and swim with the biggest fish in the world, a shark which can grow up to 9 meters in length!
Butanding, or whale shark (Rhincodon typus), is a slow-moving filter-feeding animal that is considered as the largest fish in the sea, measuring 40 feet or more. This distinctively yellow-marked shark is the only member of its genus Rhincodon and its family, Rhincodontidae, which is grouped into the subclass Elasmobranchii in the class Chondrichthyes.
Believed to have originated about 60 million years ago, Butanding can be found in the waters of Donsol, Sorsogon between the month of January and May.
